Wild About Mushrooms Foraging Day
We are pleased to announce the return of our mushroom foraging course with renowned mycologist and vegetarian Dr Patrick Harding.
This is a fascinating course. Patrick’s expertise will dispel the myths and concerns around picking and eating wild mushrooms.
The taste of the cultivated wild varieties is as far removed from the complexity of flavour and texture of truly wild mushrooms as sliced white bread is from artisan handmade breads. So this is a course for foodies, wild food enthusiasts and, of course, anyone who simply adores mushrooms.
After coffee and refreshments on arrival the day begins with an introductory talk to the fascinating world of wild mushrooms. This session will include guidelines on safe and sensible gathering before Patrick accompanies the group on an expedition to nearby woods to search for a range of different fungal species which he will carefully identify.
Following your foray you will return to Parkdale for a delicious late lunch of wild mushroom dishes cooked by our Cordon Vert chefs. After lunch there will be an opportunity to buy signed copies of Patrick’s books on edible mushrooms.
The schedule for the day is as follows:
9:15am - Doors open for registration and coffee on arrival
9:45am - Introduction and health & safety talks
10am - Presentation by Dr Patrick Harding on mushroom identification
11am - Field Trip led by Patrick
1.30pm -Return to Parkdale for buffet lunch
3.30pm -Approximate time of course closure
